The lemonade diet or the ‘Master Cleanser’ diet is typically a detoxification or cleansing diet aimed to free the body of the toxins and chemical built-ups. Although the lemonade diet is not intended for weight loss, people tend to take it as a means of fast weight loss.
The lemonade diet is a liquid diet which involves consumption of 6 to 12 glasses of lemonade concoction, in a day. The concoction contains lemon juice, water, maple syrup and small quantities of cayenne pepper. Besides this concoction, the person undertaking the lemonade diet can take in herbal laxative and salt water drink. Lemons are used as they are readily available and are a rich source of minerals and vitamins. The diet is to be followed for at least 10 days with 40 days being the maximum. The diet can be followed three to four times in a year.
After the duration of lemonade diet is over, people experience relief from infections, arthritic symptoms and pain. The gradual transition from the lemonade diet to the normal eating pattern is also important.
However those pioneering the theory of lemonade diet insist that this diet should not be followed by those looking to lose weight fast as on the completion of the diet, half the weight lost would come back. Also nutrition experts and health professionals do not advise prolonged fasting of any form for the purpose of weight loss.
